From the kitchen of Mama Jocko, I present chocolate gravy and biscuits:
    The ingredients:
    1 Cup Sugar
    3 Tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa
    4 Tablespoons Flour
    1 Teaspoon Vanilla
2 Cups of Water or Milk (Mama Jocko uses water because that's how Grandmama Jocko made it)
    Undetermined amount of butter
Mix the sugar, cocoa and flour. Slowly stir in the water or milk. Add vanilla. Cook on medium heat until thick. Get a bowl. Put some butter in it. Mama Jocko was noncommittal as regards the amount of butter. She said it depends on how soon you want to die. I'd suggest a lot. Pour the chocolate over the butter. Stir that shit up until the butter is melted. Her final instruction is "eat with homemade biscuits". I used to pour the chocolate over the biscuits like traditional gravy. Mama Jocko crumbles her biscuits up in the chocolate. As long as it all ends up in your stomach, it doesn't really matter.

i meant to quote this post instead of the other one. the internet is hard sometimes.

I was wondering heh. I have to admit that sounds very yummy. I must try!

My daughter is up from AZ and I promised to make a surprise breakfast for the whole fam damnily. This was my first time trying this but, it was a big damn hit, "Hoosier style"

5/8 cups instant non-fat dried milk
    1 tablespoons yeast
    3/8 cup sugar
1 1/4 cups water, heated to 110 degrees
    1 1/2 tablespoons oil
    4 1/4 cups self-rising flour
    Shortening for deep frying

In a big bowl, mix the powdered milk, yeast and sugar. In another bowl, mix the water and oil. Add the liquids to the powdered milk mixture and mix until the yeast lumps are gone

Add flour, 1 cup at a time, stirring slowly. After 3 cups are added, begin kneading in remaining flour, slowly, on a floured surface. After all the flour is added, continue kneading 5 minutes more. Roll out dough, in sections if necessary, to 1/4 inch thick. Keep surface floured. Cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter.
Place biscuits on a floured cookie sheet. Let rise for an 1 hour.

Heat shortening in a deep pan to 350 degrees. Add biscuits. When edges turn golden brown, turn. The biscuits cook pretty fast, watch the oil temp, dont let it get above 350, as they will cook too fast on the surface while the center is still un-cooked. Remove with tongs. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot, with apple butter.
    Makes about 24 bicuits

I think they were amazing enough to serve for Thanksgiving morning breakfast when my Hoosier kin (Evansville) will be in town.
